I think it would be useful if you have a group such as an admin group where you would like to send everyone in that group a PM at the same time without having to enter every user's name. If you wanted to update them on a served policy or something important.

You can do that now with a few simple steps.
Make a new PM
Click the "find a member" link near the address list.
In the Find A Member window, select the group you want from the group section ( lower right ).
Hit Search.
Scroll to the bottom of the list of users and hit the "mark all" link.
Click the "select marked" link.
That will put all those people into the to field for your PM.
One of our goals is to actually remove group use from phpbb and integrate it into it's own system ( group manager )
