HTTPS Encryption for forums?

Post by Gamma Ray »

Could we have the forums encrypted?

Especially since companies like Globalsign now offer it for free for open source projects?

This does depend, however, on our hosting setup.

This one has a rule for "Not be a site that is also used for commercial purposes". I guess I would have to clarify what they mean by that exactly. I'd probably just pay for some SSL certs. One of my goals for 2.6 is to have the game client and server talk to the list server over HTTPS, and then I'd probably add it for other services like the forums and wiki.

What would be the actual benefit of encrypted forum traffic?

since the forum uses the same authentication as the game, you'd want to encrypt at least that part of the form traffic, and if you do that do it all
