Insane Vista Vid Problem

Post by ryan42 »

I have BZflag on my ThinkPad T43p. Everything is great except for randomly during play the sky and ground will start flashing green and red at an epileptic siezure-triggering rate then go back to normal. All effects/display settings are irrelevant. Attatched is a by chance screenshot of the sky red. It flashes so fast between red green and normal and so randomly it's hard to take a screenshot of it though. Usually happens when more tanks are around. Persists for maybe half a second to up to eight seconds or so then stops for a random amount of time.

Hope someone can help!

You were telling me about this just before...so this only happens when you installed Vista?

Let me guess, you have an ATI video card. Mine does the same thing in Vista. I am hoping that new video drivers from ATI will help resolve the problem (when ever the next version is released).

hello. Yes, this only happens since the vista upgrade and yes, I have an ATI video card. I was messing with the ATI settings in the Catalyst panel and it seems to affect BZFlag. If A.I. is turned to Advanced there isn't any text in BZFlag for example :-/

Maybe a setting in there affects this problem.

make sure you have the current drives from ATI, not the one MS ships with vista. The ATI drivers for vista are very new and ATI is fixing them constantly, as they do have issues.

I'm having the same problem - It is definitely an ATI-Specific issue with Vista.

They're last driver update for my card (Radeon X1600 XT 256MB PCI-E) was on Feb. 21, 2007, and I installed it a day after that...

I've had this same problem through at least 2 sets of ATI drivers in Vista.

I have made a comment on the website on their driver feedback section. I am hoping that they are keeping with their current release schedule, which looks like about one a month (that would mean that we are due). :)

I just installed the ATI Drivers just to make sure I had the latest ones and BZFlag works fine for me on Vista. Before that, BZFlag was very s l o w.

If it makes a difference, I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 edition.
