will it run on high settings well with..

Post by Sharpshooter »

I just ordered a dell Inspiron 530 with the following specs:

256MB NVIDIA GeForce 7300LE TurboCache
Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 (2.00GHz)
2GB RAM
320GB HardDrive
Windows Vista Home Premium

Im mainly concerned about my video card which apparently sux for gaming, but since bzflag isnt very graphically demanding, would it run smoothly on high settings?
I used to have a iBook G3 with no upgrades that ran bzflag almost perfectly, so i would imagine that this new dell is more than a step up from a 4-year old apple laptop.

It should, I'm running more or less the same system, except I have a 6600 instead of a 7300.

I have everything on the highest settings (1680x1050 rez), and I tend to get 40-100 FPS.

Make sure you have the newest video card drivers as well... They tend to be the difference between 10 FPS and 50 FPS.

well the 6600 is much higher preformance then my card, so even if the system is the same, there would be a big difference...
Ive even heard people saying that the 7300LE can hardly even run Vista Solitair on high setting so I was just wondering if i made a mistake getting the card.
Im actually going to do almost no gaming so it made sense at the time not to waste money for graphics that I wont even be using.

Let's put it this way. BZFlag runs at 24+ FPS on my Intel Extreme 845 with a Pentium M 1.6GHz at 640x480. This is with everything turned on. You'll be fine.

My laptop with a 1.6GHz AMD Turion X2 with a nVidia Go 7600 256MB can run Half-Life 2. Not all that fast, but it runs it.

Dang that is a very nice laptop! Too bad you don't have much of a graphics card. My Desktop has a Nvidia GEForce4 Ti 4600. It works very well its a nice but somewhat expensive graphics card. My laptop is an old Dell inspiron 8200 the graphics are great if the program doesn't ask for much on graphics because the hard disk is sooooo freakin slow! If it wasn't for the fact that hard disks have to be "altered" so they don't damaged by lots of movement it would operate pretty fast. Intel pentium 4 mobile, proccessor 1gb of ram, almost 30gb of harddisk space (large for the time it was made), and an okay graphics card.

Dell phased out the Dimension line of PC's and know all it's non-gaming computers carry the name Inspiron AFAIK.
