Freeing the mouse

I'm using Ubuntu and am wondering if their is anyway to "free the mouse" while using bzflag. I can push f1 to get it into windowed mode but then I can't get the mouse out of the screen to use other things. Does anyone know how to fix this? Any help is appreciated.
