i join a server and im fine, like usual. but as soon as i shoot a single shot, the server forces a disconnect, and it says "your UPD/UDP is turned off" or something, Upgrade your client..... cant remember. does anyone have the faintest idea what that means and how i can fix it..
cheers- Zac
UPD/UDP??
Re: UPD/UDP??
If you got the message:
Your end is not using UDP, turn on udp
upgrade your client http://BZFlag.org/ or
Try another server, Bye!
It means that when you fired a shot it was sent with a TCP/IP packet and the server requires a UDP/IP packet. This is a sign of an older client.
Not what that means in laymans terms is, that there is a major network language on the internet called "Internet Protocol" or "IP". In IP there are two major dialects, "UDP" and "TCP". UDP stands for uni-directional-protocol. It is used for quick one way data transmissions. TCP stands for Transmission Control Protocol and it is used for conversations. It ensures reliability and "handshaking" where UDP is a "fire an forget".
For Gaming, and Streaming video, and high demand apps the often use UDP. After all if you miss a few messages its not a problem since more will be coming soon. TCP is used where reliability is needed like in transiting and email, or file download. If you miss a message with TCP then it will correct and ask for a retransmission of it.
So basically it boils down to the BZ server noting that you have an old client. Get the latest and yo should be fine. Anything in the 2.10-2.13 depending on your OS is probably OK.

Re: UPD/UDP??
Afaik UDP is active by default in all bzflag versions of the last few years, so the BZFlag message "to update your bzflag client" is simply wrong.
The issue is either on your router or your firewall or your ISP.

Yes, z[h]ero is correct. That message usually point to a firewall or ISP issue.
