How to change map?

Post by flowerbzflag »

Hello everyone!

We just found this super game and play it hardcore in our office! Super :D
Now we have a problem - is it possible to change the map?
I have downloaded one map for testing, winter-een-mas.bzw. Now what?
We run Mac OSX. We have here 5 macs, one is the server, we play BZF locally...

All help is so welcome! Thanks in advance :D

Alright, just a forewarning: I usually mess up when it comes to interpreting questions, but I think I know what you're asking.

When you run BZFS (I assume you are using terminal), run it with the parameter "-world insert/path/to/map/here.bzw".

Does this solve your question or did I mess this one up too?

Thanks! Your answer is just great :D but I am not sure I understand it :(
I am running this BZFS right from OSX, you know, no terminal. I really do not know where to put that parameter.

I think I now have two ways

1) I run BZFS from the terminal and try to use your tip; or
2) I try to poke the map into some proper place some other way...

What method are you using to start the server? Just double clicking BZFS? Using the Start Server function within BZFlag?

Terminal/BZFS:

Personally, I like Terminal the best (it's simplest). If you want to do it in Terminal, just:

1) Open Terminal
2)Type "the/filepath/to/bzflag/bzfs/" followed by a space and then any parameters you want to load (such as -world).

Here is a complete list of the parameters you can load: http://my.bzflag.org/w/BZFS_Command_Line_Options

The other way to go about this would be to edit your Config file (http://my.bzflag.org/w/Sample_conf). A config file is basically just a list of all the parameters that load automatically when you start BZFS.

The wiki can probably answer your questions better than I can though; here is the article on BZFS if you need it : http://my.bzflag.org/w/BZFS

Ultra Many Thanks for the info!

Yes, I have just double clicked BZFS then from the menu I've started the server.

I have to try follow your instructions... More questions coming soon!!! :-D
I'm sorry for the newbie questions :P

On Mac OS X, the Start Server menu actually works (it doesn't on windows).

• Put your map in the folder <home folder>/Library/Application Support/BZFlag/worlds/
(If the folder is not there you'll have to create it)

• Then fire up BZFlag and select your map from the start server menu.

This is a whole lot easier than using BZFS directly (the BZFlag server application). You don't get as many options buy it's quick to set up.

Also note that if the map is CTF and does not include all 4 teams, it might fail to run via the "Start Server" menu. You would need to modify the map file to include an options map object with the proper -mp setting (which takes 6 values, rogue, red, green, blue, purple, observer). Like, say it was a red vs green map, and you wanted 5 players for each team - along with 10 observer slots. You would add this to the map file at the top:

Code: Select all

options
-mp 0,5,5,0,0,10
end
