Recently upgraded from Ubuntu 8 to 9, then 10.04
Previously the game ran fine, but now I'm commonly kicked for packet loss, or high jitter.
Any suggestions? I'm wondering if it's a wifi signal strength issue - by moving my wifi dongle around I change from 50% to 70% which seems to help but it's not consistent.

Re: Packet loss after Ubuntu upgrade
IIRC, ubuntu had a little trouble with a wifi driver or something, and all that was needed was a quick download from synaptic and a change in a text file. Hows your internet when you're just browsing the web? is it worse than it was?

There are moments of delay when web-browsing, but no great problems.

hmm, disregard what i said then, if i was correct than your whole internet usage would be finicky.

You might want to check the "restricted drivers" control panel (or whatever they call it) and see if there is a better driver you can turn on. Sometimes there may be an open-source driver which doesn't work as well (yet), which may be what you are currently using.

Re: Packet loss after Ubuntu upgrade
The only driver change I could make would be to use NDIS wrapper with the windows one, but I don't think that the USB dongle is the problem - other networking is super fast.
I think it might be an issue with background processes - if I leave the PC for a few minutes before connecting its fine - jitter of about 5-10, but then there are occasions when it jumps up for short periods to about 30. I don't think it's a game issue so we'll consider this thread closed - many thanks.
