jitter resolution for linux users

Post by N5X »

i'm running slackware 13.0, and before a hard drive crash, i was having marginal jitter issues. in other words, usually i had very little jitter, but occasionally it would get me bumped from a game. i noticed the jitter was worse when there were a lot of players, and a lot of shooting was going on at once. after a HDD crash and reinstall, it was worse, i got bumped for jitter, and the game was jerky. i tried lower video resolutions etc, but that was no help. on linux i've been running KDE desktop, which is kind of piggish for CPU time and memory usage. i tried a less CPU intensive desktop (xfce) and running bzflag.... much better. the game runs as smooth as glass, and i'm not getting bumped for jitter... just something to think about if you can't figure out why you have jitter issues.... at least with linux, you can try different desktop managers to resolve issues like this....
