Multiplayer server questions (Port numbers etc)

Post by Phonica »

Hi, im having a few problems with my multiplayer server...

Connection is 768/128 but even with 1 player, im having lag problems even with a single player. Im behind a proxy + firewall (mapped ports) with UDP enabled.

When i connect to localhost instead of xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx i see messages about connections in the 193x port range, what is this for and should i forward it too?

And does anyone have any general tips for new bzflag servers?

Thanks

A general tip is that 128kbps is NOT going to cut it.
That is 16KBps (minus tcp/udp/pppoe overhead) throughput... which is sufficient for about 2-3 people.
I've seen on my 10shot server when carrying 25 people average about 450KBps output... that's about 4000kbps or 4mbit. Your 128kbps wont cut it for much.

This may explain your lag problem.
