Problem adding world to bzfs...

Post by bamf. »

I recently moved my bzflag server to debian 3.0. I've tried to add the switch "-world mapname", with no success. The error I receive:

test.bzw(1) : invalid object type "<?xml"

(test.bzw is the custom map)

At first I thought maybe the custom map I was adding was buggy, so I tried a different one and had the same result. I then tried an empty map, same error. I have no problem running a server without a custom map.
Any ideas?

it sounds like a 1.8 map being loaded into a 1.7x server, or there is extra crap in the map file.

What version of the server are you running?

Where did you get the map?

Post up the map somewhere where we can see it, so we can help figure out what is going on.

PatLabor: may be something wrong with the world?

hehe.

look in your distro for a file called hix.bzw
Model your world after that.

Current server version I'm running is 1.7g0, I've also had the same problem with 1.7e6.
I don't think the map is the problem. I've tried maps that are running on other servers and I also tried a blank file (0kb) and received the same error.
I had no issues running the same version of bzfs on Win2K with any maps.

RESOLVED!!

Post by bamf. »

Feel kinda silly now
I found out the problem, the maps I tried to use, I first had opened up in Abiword. After opening the maps with vi editor, I noticed Abiword added tons of language/font garbage to the file. You don't see this in Abiword, as it hides it like anyother word processor. Anyway, thanks for you help!
