They say i am jumpy sometimes

Post by Mucho Maas »

Hello,

I have the following problem.

In ducati matches occasionally people complain about me beeing jumpy.
When i check my lag stats, its always around 60 and about 6ms jitter, which is not a lot.

I play on a D600 Dell laptop running Windows XP SP2.
It has a dell logitech mouse and i use the correct logitech mouse driver for it, where i have set acceleration and and speed to the maximum.

I have no other internet applications running, services trimmed down to a minimum.

I play over a Sinus 154 DSL Basic SE modem connected through a cable, wlan is off.

The client i am using is bzflag2.0.3b2 for win32 with some customized tank textures.

I was told that on irc someone was complaining about similar issues, good lag values but still jumpy for some.

Not everybody has complained, some in the same match didnt feel i was jumpy.

So maybe somebody can help me in this respect.

Thanks in advance,
Foo aka mistake

Please upgrade to 2.0.3b3 or higher. There is a timing problem on laptops with intel processors running windows in 2.0.3b2 and all prior versions, which was fixed in b3. If you want to work around it instead of upgrading, disable SpeedStep and set your processor to always run at maximum speed (although I'm not sure Dell gives you that level of control).

there are a variety of b17 releases, which one in particular did you use.

also...........i am using b16 because b17(all applicable revs) causes some funky GM missle behavior.........ie, massive amounts of lag/jumpyness when fired at.
.........you kids, get out of my tank...........

so i did, installed the 17-p2 build. before i think it was p4, i am one of those first do then read. it actually cranked up my fps a bit and didnt crash tonite, although i did all kind of moves.

but again one person noted that i was jumpy. will try again disabling the speedstep thingy, now where is that manual.

if you need more information about my computer to offer help, i'd gladly give it.

model: D600 Dell laptop running Windows XP SP2.
mouse: dell logitech mouse + logitech mouse driver if logitechs website- acceleration and and speed to the maximum.
dsl: Sinus 154 DSL Basic SE modem, wlan is off
proc: Intel Pentium M 1400MHz
gfx: Mobility Radeon 9000

thanks, you guys do a great job and its not even a job

please try the normal 2.0.4-rc1
we stoped with the optimised ones as they were not stable on all systems.

would this fix my problem?

as i mentioned, the 17-p2 build seems very stable for me, except for the little jumpyness.

Well, 2.0.4-rc1 is much newer. I would give it a try and see if it fixes it. :)

we don't know what the problem is, so the only thing that can be done is to try stuff and see what narrows it down.

This is difficult, since i don't observe the problem myself. jumpiness can't be that bad, cause their bullets are always on target:)

but did the fix in 2.0.3.b3 helped solve the problem for those that have reported it? i think it was sportchick.

Could it be that it is related to having a speedy mouse setup? (maybe not, since i think in linux you can even have faster mouse).

anyways, i'll try the release candidate and see if people like me more now.

not going to help. You will need to stop singing first.
Beware! I'm going to clone myself and spread those clones all over the world!

Hey trb, nice to hear from you, how is the climat for you where you are now? when are you returning home to mild florida.
I stopped singing when you left, I will take it up again when you return, i promise.
Miss somebody that moves me to the edge of my chair when playing. Since you left we drive in circles a lot
