For some reason I can't get my custom map to load on my server. When ever I try to connect to my server, it won't let me enless I use "random map." How do I fix this?
I also noticed this the other day. Trying to start a server from the client GUI. It lets you select from .bzw files in ~/.bzf/worlds, but it didn't seem to work unless you left it at the default of "random". I didn't dig into it to see what was up.

That's called a bug. You are supposed to be able to use it that way. It's just not the way the developers or persons running a dedicated servers do it, so that feature doesn't get much attention. It's probably broke and no one had noticed...
it was not thought out well when it was implmeneted, it uses secret hidden magical folders for maps, sadly not the same secret hidden magical folder that the client saves maps in.
The "secret hidden magical folder" is .bzf/worlds in your home directory on linux. Probably in your My Documents, My BZFlag Files\worlds on Windows. The client does both save worlds in (Options->Save World) and look for files to load (Join->Start Server->World Map) from this folder. After fiddling with it a bit, it looks like using one version of the client to save worlds may result in files that have an options block that doesn't load right on another version.
