make sure any other programs that use lag are not running ( ex: msn google talk)

then test your lag, I kknow having msn and google talk open saves alex135 about 400ms.

what type of connnection are you running on ?

in the game press o and then enter,

a bunch on things will show up that look like this:

see where it has all the players names and numbers next to them, find your name, the first number is the lag right then, and the second number after that is the jitter ( the things with teh +- next to them)

even more interesting, where are you playing from, and how high is your lag.
To test lag, use tracert on windows or traceroute on linux to see where the bottleneck is.

example linux> traceroute dub.bzflag.org
example win> tracert dub.bzflag.org

(you need to have a shell/console open to do this.)

And about programs, do not have any file sharing tools running also, and if you are sharing your connection with others, that can have a big negative effect also.

slasher, living in australia you are prone to have problems with lag, because most servers are situated in north america or europe. provided you have a really good connection you may still make up for the geographical disadvantage. i know a few players from australia and new zealand who are regulars.

Yes. Playing from Australia on a fast connection will add at least 170ms just to get to the west coast of the U.S.

Sometimes your virus scan protection slows down your computer. Make sure it is turned off while you are playing a game if you dont want lag.
