If linux try to start it in a terminal whit strace to see if you can find a problem:

strace -o bzftrace bzflag

The -o flag is to set an output point to the file ~/bzftrace from the strace you do instead of showing it directly in your terminal.

You need to have strace installed for this, when not:

in debian or other apt-get based distros "apt-get install strace" (in terminal without quotes)

gentoo "emerge strace" (in terminal without quotes)

rpm base distro's ?? I have no idea

How can we help you if that is all you say?!?!
MANY players use 2.0.8 with no errors, so there has to be something different about your hardware or software, obviously.

Please post all the details of your hardware, OS, etc here if you would like any help.

Happens to me sometimes. You probably have a corrupted config file. Reinstalling doesn't overwrite your config. To fix it go to 'My Documents\My BZFlag Files\2.0' and delete or rename the config.cfg file you find there. A new one will be created the next time you start BZFlag and hopefullly you will be able to spawn then. Hope this helps.

I'd start with what Donny Baker said, and start with the config.cfg file. If you have a default Windows XP install, this is in your "My Documents" folder in:

\My Documents\My BZFlag Files\2.0\config.cfg

Second, I'd look at my video drivers... Did it start failing with a seemingly minor update to your video drivers? As has been said before, often, problems with games that cannot be attributed to video still seem to magically disappear with a fresh install of the very, very most current drivers from the manufacturer. Window Update could be applying tiny changes to OpenGL or DirectX that your card manufacturer has released a seemingly tiny patch for. I can't reiterate that enough... again and again I have found that installing the latest video driver solves some problem that I was 100% certain was not related to video drivers.

Third, if (and only if) you are a geek (a technical type) you may want to do some diagnosis... I use a free tool called Process Explorer from www.sysinternals.com (I have no affiliation with them) and you can use that to look for files that BZ is trying to open, or locked resources, etc.

Last but not least... because it runs full screen, BZ automatically minimizes when other processes want accss to the screen, like yo update a window or pop up a dialog box. Any chance that the problem is that you've installed or configured something... even a background task, or service, that now has BZ thinking that this other program has the "right of way" to the screen?

Dude. Let off the caps lock. It's really annoying and it doesn't make you anymore 1337 than you think you are.

I have Linux Fedora 5. When I click on the icon a bzflag window opens for a split second and then disappears. How do I get to the config.cfg file in Linux? :?:

In linux, it should be in your home directory, here: ~/.bzf/2.0/config.cfg
