BZ Version 1.10.8

Post by Albino Blacksheep »

Bringing Back the old stuff!!!
I was just wondering if anyone wanted to expirience 1.10.8 again with me. I will need someone to host on it, because the only 2 servers there (both Pie in the Sky) dont work. If you want to play, heres how to download:
Mac OSX
Microsoft
GNU/Linux
If you want to play, just check in with me, and we'll set a date! :D

Thanks, but no thanks.

1.10.8? That's prehistoric. I'm just fine with all the servers we have on 2.0.8. Thank you.

When it came to the release of 2.0, why did such a large portion population not want to switch over?

There is something really satifying about playing the old version... I don't know what it is.

They didn't want to switch to the newer version because 2.0.0 was buggy and the much better graphics had higher graphic card requirements.

Nowadays the 1.10.x servers are empty because starting with 2.0.2 BZFlag was less buggy again and people got newer computers/graphic cards.

I know lots of people that diddn't switch because they diddn't like of all of the graphical enhancements.

Sure, there were many that diddn't have the capabilites to run it, but I'm fairly cirtain that's a minority.

/me expects to be blasted for being totally wrong.

the bigest reason many did not change was the changes to the spawning system, it was moved to the server, and didn't take shots into account.

yeah...try 1.7d or older and feel the charm of the old HUD, an option menu which is shorter than the weekly shopping list, guided missiles that sound like ordinay bullets, worlds that consist of cuboids and pyramids only ... and so on ... ;o)

Yes, it appears in the SVN (http://bzflag.svn.sourceforge.net/viewv ... /branches/). You just need to download it from the SVN and compile it yourself.

:) I played 1.7! Was fun. I think the top graphics thing at that time was the super bullet. :D But, that was 1.7b I think.

I enjoyed 1.10.8... but I don't know if I'll be part of this one right now guys. Sorry!

1.7 is available on the SourceForge download site as well. No need to build it if you're running Windows. Also, I'm not sure if all of the versions actually work on current versions of Windows. Server side commands weren't even implemented in some of the VERY early versions of the open-source'd code.
