Good evening bzflaggers. (:

Today i was watching TV, and had visited one tv canal, called gameplay TV.

There i have seen how the worlds best teams from diffrent games were matching eachother.
if really say, i dont know how the things go there, in ESL league, but it would be great if BZFlag was one of the games which are playable in ESL league.

What do you think about that?

Bzflag in ESL.

ESL is an organisation which organises small tourneys, qualification tours >>>> ( winner teams will play in the world cup )

you may ask why it's needed?

well it's a good way to meet bzflag players from all over the world, isnt it?

Please share with your oppinion here.

Why do we need some company to organize matches for us when we already have leagues that work fine? I don't really see the point.

hmm good question, i am not asking you to change the league for a company.

all bzflag players can still play the league they like to play.
but the thing is that this company will just organise some more matches for us.

so the advantages are:

1) we may meet eachother some times a year, for free.

2) winning price to the winner team in the world cup.. ))

ah yes, this kind of project will make bzflag more known in the world, and more players all over the world will check what is it, Bzflag i mean.

more players, more matches, more fun.

I think this would be great. Could get BZFlag very well known. But what are the chances of this actually happening? and what do you have to do to get it started?

Bzflag isn't "popular" enough. Unfortunately.

I agree here.

i think it could become popular enough. for sure. are there standards for how popular a game must be before it is able to be in ESL?

I highly doubt that it would be easy to get involved in ESL, but it's worth a try I suppose, if the top-bz-peoples think it's a good idea. It would definitely bring more people to the game...

Banner ads ftw! :-)

Just another message...
BZFlag is a fabulous game. Look! It has 18.619 members (Tue Jan 07, 2009 2:31 pm GMT+1). So I'm asking: Why aren't we popular enough?
Because there are still more popular games.
Wikipedia wrote:With more than 11.5 million monthly subscribers, World of Warcraft is currently the world's largest MMORPG in those terms, and holds the Guinness World Record
"World of Warcraft" earns about 100 million dollar in one year! BZF still depends on helpful people to survive (thanks to all who help).
Compared with "WoW" is BZFlag still little amusement, unfortunately.
BZF needs a management, earnings to pay 'em and whatever a big company needs. And of course, the broadcaster still wants money for showing us playing. Well, i don't want to be pessimistic, but i don't think we'll see BZFlag in near future in TV.
  • We've a dream. The dream to make a fabulous game the most popular game. The dream to be respected as a member of BZF in the wide world. The dream to may play with players from every continent, even the Antarctica.
Not just a dream. It will be reality, hopefully.

i wish i could answer all your questions as soon as possible, but i have no time for this right now.

so i will fastly say that i am against what piet said.
Not only the very known games had a tournament / tournaments which were organized by ESL.

Or better say not only very known organisations games are having membership in the ESL.

For example, AssaultCube. The first official release was in November 2006
This game is slower than Quake but faster than counter-strike.
It's also opensource as bzflag is.

AssaultCube is less playing game than bzflag.
AssaultCube was started by a few members of the Cube community.
AssaultCube has less players than BZFlag does.
This game is also free as BZFlag is.

i have already regsitered in the ESL.
I have made an apply.
i mean that i have asked ESL admins team a question, how to bring a game into the ESL, some minutes ago, and i am waiting for response.

I think we should give it a try.

Hello,

Yeah sure, all you need to do is just show that people want to play it in ESL UK and we will look into it.

I think, personally, linking to the official forums main page and the BZFlag home page would be good. This topic doesn't seem all that "official." :-D And sure, give them the game name while you're at it. :-P

i think it would be better to make a new topic with a poll. ask people to vote if they would or wouldn't like it.

Would be graet if it worked, but i think if to agree in some points with piet :/
But we will see what happens.
Another idea would be to try to get bzflag on a televisoin show like GigaGames or GAmeOne (in germany)
