Lag Solutions??

Post by Gx00 »

Getting tired of people complaining and getting kicked constantly after 5 minutes...

Cant figure out why i have such bad lag/jitter when playing BZFlag at home. Sometimes I can play without issue, but *most* of the time its hell.

I am always wired directly to the modem/router. I have tried 2 different models.
I have a 16mbps/1mbps dsl connection
Im not downloading when i play. I even close unnecessary applications.
Doesnt matter what time of day

my universities wifi is more stable/better playing experience than at home wired in.

My computer runs Xubuntu with 4GB ram and and 2.53Ghz dual core although i dont think thats an issue as at uni i dont have nearly the same issues.

Running Bzflag 2.4.2

is it just a shitty ISP? Modem settings that need to be tweaked?? HELP

If there are no other programs running while you play on your system, it is most likely your Internet Connection Speed that's an issue, or the Server's.
It is possible that the game is laggy because of the weak/slow connection to the server.

I wouldn't know if 16 MBit/s CS would be enough, since I have 1 GBit/s and it works smoothly for me.
I want to ask one thing, though. Since you're using Ubuntu, I believe you are using OpenGL Mode for the booster. Are you certain that the OpenGL Mode did not perhaps automatically switch to Safe Mode and by that lower your speed?

Bzflag uses nowhere near those bandwith limits.

"OpenGL Mode" is not a thing. We always use OpenGL to draw our graphics, we have no "Safe" or "Software" mode so I have no idea what you are talking about. Please don't make up things. It's nice to try to help people, but if you are not 100% sure of your answer then your misinformation does more damage then not helping.

You should check your frame rates. You can do this by using the T key in game. If your frame rate is very low or if it changes a lot, that can turn into latency that affects your network performance. You should make sure that you have the correct drivers for your video card and OS
