LOL. I still haven't been able to test one single 1.11.x version with somebody but my bots, locally :)

BTW, I noticed that now Zoned tanks can shoot, and I managed to kill myself while zoned like that ... so what's the idea? What does a Zoned shot hit? Other Zoned tanks, or anything, like a Superbullet? (I can't experiment for myself, which is why I'm asking :))

BTW2: any chances that bots will be guided by Roger in 1.12?

That's awesome. It's like a separate little battle going on.

I'd be willing to test new versions, bleeding edge is fun.

I'm happy to test the new client and can also build for Win32 (using DC++)... I'm just having a few compilation problems at the mo, when I get it up and running I can post a nightly build to my website (if that's OK/legit) so that people can download it..

Why is it that different 1.11.* versions are not compatible with each other? I was hosting a server, 2 people could get on it fine with 1.11.16 but somebody using 1.11.12 couldnt get on.

because we change the version numbers when the protocoll changes.

1.11.12 dosnt' know about the new networking stuff in 1.11.16 so it HAS to be incompatable, otherwise it would not behave he same, and/or crash.

the 1.11.x line is an active development line, if you are planing on running servers for it you must be willing to update often as the code can go thru signifigant changes in the course of even a week.

the same thing happend with 1.9.x.

Odd numberd minor versions are for development, and are allmost allways incombatable between revisions.

Even numberd minor versions are "stable releases", they are allways compatable between revisions, as revisions are not suposed to add new major features, but just fix bugs.

Generaly new major features require changes in how the client and server comunicate. To be compatable the client and server must comunicate in the EXAXT same way. This is why we change verstions every time we add a protocoll changing feature in the dev versions.

I think we are on 21 or 22 now There has not been a build for it, it's not the most stable thing.

There will be a post here when I've bilt one.

I've purchased a Macintosh just for building mac versions too. When it gets here I'll use that to make mac builds as well.

DSL is back on at my home so I can build betas more easaly now.

I am enjoying a lot of the new stuff, Trepan. I have to be careful on some of the physics stuff, as it started to give me motion sickness! I wish I were kidding. :)
