Motion Sickness

Post by I_Died_Once »

Alright - this might come off as corny - but this is one I've been wanting to talk about for a minute now.

Ever take a deep fall from a high place, or what have you, and your stomach rolled from the "movement" ? I would says it much like watching a roller coaster cam... Am I the only one that gets this? Anyone else know what I'm talking about?

Every now and then, when I'm deep and good into a game, I'll find my stomach getting queazy like that. Then again, if you were to ever walk in on me playing, you'd wonder why I'm physically dodging in my chair...
...This has been a recording.

Well sometimes when I'm on a boat for a while when I get off onto land I'll still be 'rocking'. I only get the stomach thing in BZFlag if I'm doing really good or have a goal to beat someone, and I'm about to do something that would really affect my score. Falling is no prob, and yes, I do dodge bullets in my chair :D

This is completely normal. It doesn't happen to me, but it is the reason why my dad doesn't play these kinds of games. It is the simple effect between the eyes and body. Your eyes send messages to the brain telling it that you are moving, but the body opposes. Somewhere in there is where this feeling is created.

Yeah, when I am in a 3d real-like game, I always move from side to side with whatever I'm driving. It makes the game seem more real though.... uh oh... no! no! turn! aaaaaaaaaah!

Ducking to avoid pixels

Oh ya thats me, I also duck when I am jumping and want to avoid a shot above me, most of the time it works. Also saying "this flag is gonna be Laser" seems to help too. But then again, I'm 14!

The only thing that really makes me jump is right when you pick up Trigger Happy in 2.0. BOOOOM, scares me out of the chair sometimes, not expecting it.

There are quite a few people like this. They just can't handle the motion and 3D. Makes them sick.

In another time, another game (Monster Truck Madness II) I created a world called "ACID". Because of the sound and moving lights the best of us could only play for 15 minutes or so without becoming sick.

I don't really get motion sickness unless it's over 80 degrees in the room, but I do tend to get dry-eyed.

I sometimes move about in my chair when I'm not very "tuned in". After I've been playing a while, I tend to get so deep into the game that it nearly takes a box in the ear to get me to even blink. On the other hand, I'm autistic, so I'm a bit weird anyhow.
