The New $9,000 BzFlag Chair

Post by Gerbil »

I posted a magazine cover pic of the chair. I will have the fold out page with notes on features scanned and posted in the next day or so here.

Pretty cool--I'd be afraid to use it though. I can't believe there are actually Japanese who built this and play it as a dare. Inconceivable!

I think it would be illegal in U.S.

The link only leads to an image that says: Image hosted by tripod. In other words: bad link. chair looks cool in your avatar, though its too small to see well. :(

Looks like Gerbil needs a better hosting provider with less restrictions.. ;) I've copied the images to another location so that it can be seen. Nice chair, Gerbil! .. You could probably get a permit for it in the U.S. .. you can get a permit for just about anything with enough money.

My bad, I f I had just typed the url in and not made it clickable it woulda got you there better. Thanks for the reposting.

I have to work late tonight but will post up the annotated version of it (explaining what all the parts are).

Anyone notice the "semtex" charges under the seat? (I love that).

I really like the gun (is that a paintball gun?? :) ) pointing AT the person in the chair. I could use the plow to dig my cars out of the snow. I think the Death Star takes the cake, though.. puts it all to scale.

It is not a joke, I went to the newsstand down the street from me just today and saw it. It caught my eye, and I thought it was a joke too, but I realised that the entire stock had the same print, moreover, Gerbil is advertising it too. It's just that such a good idea is hard to come by in reality, but this time it is real.

That CHAIR costs more than the Prowler (go-kart like thing) in the last magazine... I would like the prowler better

Dude, I am confused now. You can play BZFlag on it? So it is a chair with a computer on it? and it has weapons/ But who does it kill, the guy IN the chair, or whoever you want to aim at?

Some info

Post by Gerbil »

According to the article, the weapons are military surplus plus one paint gun. It's a carl Gustav Recoiless Rifle and a Fifty caliber machine gun--both fitted with "blank catchers"--they shoot blank shots.

The computer is the bz interface and syncs al, the chair systems to the game--so the gun shoots when you shoot, etc.

The semtex charges under the seat are Czechoslovokian surplus bought (illegally I assume) by the Japanese guys who built the chair. They plan on playing a 1v1 game of CTF and the first player who has his flag captured will have the plastique under his chair detonate.

Apparently they are super rich, got ticked off at each other and this is how they plan to settle their argument--go figure Japanese.

The article said they are both obsessive players of BZFlag which is what started the argument in the first place. Supposedly the chairs are at a secret location as the Japanese police are trying to locate them and they allowed PM to see them because they wanted people to know that they created these. I guess they aare pretty high tech.

All right, line up with your hands on the wall. You have been very bad children, and you deserve this. It's gonna hurt me more than it hurts you.

Some of you need to learn to use an amazing resource called the "internet", and some common sense.

Over and out.

Ok, how about this: I don't meAn to be an ass, but I have searched high and low online, and this would have to be big news. So someone give me a link on the popular mechanics website, and I am convinced.

Thus, urban legends are born.

For those of you on the internet but who have not yet learned, "Everything on the internet is true--just everybody on is a liar."

'Twas just a jest.

Hehe--please return your realities to the full, upright positions and prepare for real life.

I just don't get it. It is an easy thing to understand: this chair and the magazine are reality. Easy to understand, yet its reality is debated. Pfft

Alright...I admit it...I lied because I didn't want anyone to call the authorities and try to stop this.

It's all real...it's all true--I wanted to see the carnage. I am a bad man.

Maybe my honesty now will serve as penance--maybe it's not to late to stop the insanity.

Oh gee. I messed up. I'm really sorry on this one.

I went back today and found the article on the PM site, after a bit of searching. My mistake big time.

It also hit Slashdot late last night, and it's in the Drudge Report queue. Holy %^$#, this is real!
