outside of registering your call name for the ladder stats, is this possible? just thinking about these stats...good work [dmp], this is interesting data.

Yes it is. I've been wondering on how to improve the ladder a few weeks ago, I found that the next major step would be to help writing / or to write a bzflag-server with ladder-functionality. This would avoid having my server polling other servers and the centralized approach. But this will be sometime in the future, when I got the time. (I want to help improving the current league-site too.. )
it seems like that will be the next step for your ladder system eh. when you first started the ladder on ducati CTF server, i recall alot of concern about how it changed the play. people were less interested in flag capturing and more about shooting tanks for better kill ratios. with a built in ladder system, should be curious to see how it affects FFA games(on all servers?). maybe it has already though. does anyone think they play differently now because of their stats?

i'm not saying the ladder system is a bad idea at all, i want to be clear about that. i am just interested in how people play now days....i.e does this ladder motivate people to OO camp more than usual? etc.

there seems a desire to know who is "the best"(always room for arguments here) bzplayer do you think? maybe time for another tourney like chestal and veloche put on a couple years ago. although many people want this or that for gamestyle, keep it simple, a 2 shot ducati style with 5 players at a time, tankers moving through brackets.
it was nightmare for chestal and veloche  but fun!

oh well, i thought some might want to prove their skills. Terminator tried to arrange some FFA invited only battles, did it ever happen?

how about an arranged time, say every saturday, FFA on ducati? any interest?

Sounds like fun. Although I must admit that FFA with jumping would be a lot more enjoyable for me. And maybe 7 shot... for that matter... a Speed CTF match on Smooth's server would ROCK. If we could come up with like four teams of four people each... hmmmm.... sound good people?

7 shot?

sorry spiff, i'm not interested in playing competition games with more than 2 shots, no jumping.

jumping would already allow those with lag to escape more than usual. thats the beauty of the ducati ctf server setup, its ideal for minimizing the difference in a players lag, keeping the game simple is a must to keep it fair (as much as possible) for all.
chestal do you care to comment on this?

with jumping, one could argue the need for more shots perhaps. when it comes to competition play i recall a zig quote "lag is the essance", and lag is something that really gets under the skin of players in ctf as it is.

smooth did run a ctf map for awhile, it really was fun. i also ran some variants of highspeed ctf on my server, fun too.

anyhow, the ladder thread is dead 8)
happy weekend to all.

Actually... I wasn't really suggesting a "competition game". I was thinking of setting it up for fun. ;)

Also... Smooth is running a new CTF map. It's one of the map contest entries... a castle with low walls and stuff.. he's divided it up a little and made it into a four team CTF map. You should check it out.... it's pretty cool. :)

I agree to some extent.. but I do think that there should be jumping in FFA games. Free-for-all is not supposed to be just like CTF. If you are going to play two shot non-jumping FFA... you might as well just play regular CTF (the only difference being the flag capturing). It's pointless.

I agree with monkey_boy that a low shot count and no jumping is preferrable when you want to have a game which feels 'accurate'. With more shots, it becomes more or less random whether you die, and jumping amplifies the lg problems bye making it very hard to hit a laggy and jumping player with a single shot. And then it's my personal preference to play with 1 or 2 shots without jumping anyway. Super flags can be nice sometimes, but they can be quite frustrating, especially with lag and clueless players.
