* J F R, and color - what are these?

Post by The Purple Panzer »

Using the new 2.0.4, the server list has some new features; before each
server is "* J F R", and the server names appear in different colors.

What do these things mean?

Compare them with the info presented for their associated servers.
Should take you less time then the "Jeopardy" ditty to figure it out.

OK, these might be "Jumping", "Flags", "Rico", or
something, "Free for all", "Rabbit hunt", or something else -
does anyone know, or is it to remain guesswork? And what about the asterisk?

And, just as importantly, these letters and asterisk show up in different colors for different servers, and within the set for one server. So there is an extra dimension here too.

I don't know for sure but I thought it meant...

J = Jumping
F = Flags
R = Rico

...and if they were 'bright', these features were active, thus 'dim' would be inactive.

I think you have it Purple Panzer.

The asterisk???

Not your second guess because sometimes multiple ones are lit up. ;)

And there different because each has their own color, but when they're "off", they're dark gray.

And it means: J=Jumping, F=Superflags, R=Ricochet.

The asterisk is used to bullet them.

Bullet them?

Post by The Purple Panzer »

What do you mean by "the asterisk is used to bullet them?" Just to typographically set them off? And does the asterisk color mean anything? It seems odd to put asterisks in when the letters/servers are already on different lines.

If I were designing this sort of thing, I might have made the server name color (these vary a bit) be a function of the ping delay to the server, so I could get a sense of the possible lag, and I might have made the asterisk color (perhaps) a function of server load/busy-ness, or maybe just put in an explicit % load. Maybe I was trying to read too much in to these symbols, but it sure looked like somebody spent a bit of time adding them, so I figured they had weighty meaning.

So, do you know if the server name's color has any significance? Is it random, or set by the server?

J F R are jumping, flags, and rico respectively. But we've already established that.

The asterisk color denotes the game type. Red for CTF, yellow for FFA, white for rabbit.

The server text color indicates the number of shots. starting with blue at 1, moving up to green at 2 and yellow at 3, reaching an orange-red color at 5, and becoming bright red as you hit 10.

this is so confusing and i find it very odd that there is nothing about in the help portion of the system index. well you are all right about the JFR part but im still puzzled on the coloring of the starred and worded servers...... :cry:

Right. i'm surprised this needs so much debate, it's quite obvious:

---
ASTERISKS
Red * = Capture the Flag
Yellow * = Free for All
White * = Rabbit Hunt
Blue * = Replay Server

---
LETTERS

J = Jumping
F = Super Flags
R = Ricochet

---
SERVER MESSAGE COLOR (shot number)

Purple = 0
Blue = 1
Green = 2
Yellow = 3
|
| Shades of orange = 4 - 10
|
Red = 10+

--------

Clear?
I think this feature is really good, especially for ppl like me that bounce between lots of servers regularly.

Purple text appears to detonate replay servers as well.

no, it's just that replay servers don't use have any shots. I'm pretty sure my version is right.
