BZF rocks, and I wouldn't mind donating. It's clearly more worth it than most other games I'd pay for... and I enjoy it, and play it a lot.

But... I kinda like to know what happens to money I donate, where it goes, what it's used for, who gets it, and so on. Is there an FAQ I've missed about this, or can somebody who knows provide some details?

Also, if I donate, will players who are also developers stop killing me so much?

Well, in no way am I in charge of donations, but I can tell you that will further the development of BZFlag. Whether it be the list server (takes $$$ to run it) or machines to develop on.

Amazing there are people that want to donate out there! I would... but I don't even get enough money for myself.

P.S.: For a more specific answer ask one of the developers (particularly Tim Riker - the maintainer).

The money goes to pay for the domain name and DNS hosting of bzflag.org. After that it goes to paying for the hosting of my.bzflag.org, the list server, and these froums. After that we don't know, becuse we've never seen that much money in donations.

basicly it goes to paying for operating costs.

In the past, I've found several useful things out there in either freeware or open source land, which, when I found myself using them on a regular basis, I donated some buck$ in support of a worthy cause.

Two that come to mind are Spybot S&D, and Pocket Tanks

The game is free, and about half the weapon packs are too, but some weapon packs cost, $8, $10, whatever. It's a nice model that isn't making anybody rich, while still funding game and weapon development)

Anyway, I'm just suggesting that, if BZF is a regular part of your life (you know who you are, and I know too because you've all killed me far too often), you might consider helping them out with funds for hosting, server upgrades, and maybe the odd pizza in support of late night development or whatever.

All I can say is, I hold the folks who have dreamed, schemed, enhanced, embellished, and coded this all up from basically a concept to a very cool reality, in very high regard.

If you agree, and are in a position to hit the donate button, I think it's a worthier cause than more than half of the movies I go shell out $20-30 for, taking the wife or family on the crapshoot that movie-watching has become... or always was, I guess.

Please, don't take this wrong -- we all know this is primarily a labor of love, love of solving a coding problem, love of fun and gaming, and love of the chase (OK, killing, just good old fashioned mayhem and destruction). So, I'm not trying to make this a paying gig for somebody. It's more a gesture of appreciation, than anything. And if somebody who's working on the next release gets a pizza out of this, so much the better.

Hmmm... Jeff? I thought I saw a donate link or button, but I can't find it. Might have been on sourceforge itself. If it's there, and that makes more sense, let me know.

?? Do you have a way to allow donations to BZF itself? Presumably Paypal or similar... and maybe some sort of policy statement about using it to defray operational or developement costs? Other open source projects allow/enable donations, so I assume it is not unwanted or discouraged here, correct me if I'm out of line.

Post a link here, if there is a simple and convenient way to drop a few shillings on the project. It would also make sense to put it in the Nav bar on the home page... put it at the bottom of the list, if you're shy.

Out on Sourceforge, click on one of the colored gears and it will take you to the ledgend. There are too many different ones to list here...

I love BZFlag, and would be interested in helping with coding when im a little older and better with C++ and pygame. As far as monney, I would be willing to help but seeing my wallet with 2.50$ in it for lunch I dont think I can help...
