The Set Poll

Post by that exploding tank »

For servers that allow users to run set polls, why doesn't the poll ever change anything? I mean, when you run a set poll to set _radarLimit 0, and it passes, nothing ever happens. This happens on every server that has set polls enabled for some reason. My question is, why?

It could be that the version you use or maybe theres a bug there trying to. Most likely the server has been messed up and the poll dont work or the command was screwed up?

it it passes, and there is an admin there(that doesn't like it changed), they probally /veto it, or change it back right away.

An admin does not have to be present for a passing poll to take some sort of action (for example, a flag reset). But on set polls, nothing ever happens. The question is: why?

A couple of thoughts:

a. I am not entirely certain that most servers support much in the way of set commands. You can type "/poll set skyking_always_wins = true" but that doesn't mean that the poll, when it passes, will do anything at all.

b. Polling syntax may not be what you think it is. For instance, the syntax used for flag resets, or banning TKers, is not at all the same as the command that an admin types to accomplish those things.

I think that the more likely cause of what you are reporting AANS, is section "b", that you are getting the syntax wrong for conducting polls.

I also have thought about a perm for 'poll set', and it is also possible that the permission for the aforementioned action is not given to the 'all' or 'registered'-or equivalent group(s).

I've herd that sometimes, the votes take effect later on.
also that (like was said erlier) admins /veto it
maybe consider that the change was small and that you did not notice it- although that is unlikly :o

pardon spelling- I'm tired right now!

you have to know that works only 4 or 5 commands with /vote
/vote yes /vote no or /vote 1 /vote 2
1=yes 2=no

IT is 2 commands only, then

/vote pollkick Nickname
/vote pollban nickname

IT is 2 commands more, and 1 more

/vote flag_reset , flagreset or flag reset was dont exatly remember.

Bzflag has only 5 commands with /vote

/vote non
/vote oui

/vote y
/vote n

/vote ja
/vote nein

yeah, one thing I often do is try to initiate a poll by using "vote" instead of "poll." Of course, it gives me the "there is nothing to vote on" error, and I get confused until I realize that I used the wrong word. Use the right one, it says a poll's been started. So, make sure to use the right word! ^_^

 Someone actually did that once, right?
I read about it somewhere...
Must've been really funny :D

I remember once someone just said:
"A poll to ban (callsign of victim) has been started. players have 60 seconds to vote".
The guy(or girl, whatever) fell for it and actually thought it was real.
The joke lasted about 20 seconds, then he/she wised up.
It was hilarious
It was done only once, as far as I know.
I'm thinking I need a better sig than this...

Poll to set RadarLimit 0???

Man this polls arent fair, a server Owner allowed you to set polls...

....ok but only for flagReset, kick, ban...

The other polls, like mirror set or radarLimit and and and arent fair to the server owner.

Example:

Server is full, 30 ppl on it ; you do a RadarLimit 0 poll and you get it, more as 50% of ppl will leave cause of this.

Right, I agree with 1st Consul ... so I'm wondering, how can I only allow polls for flagreset, ban, & kick?

I believe Louman has something similar in effect at his servers.

In the man page, maybe.
Or just use common sense as to what they would mean...

CBG said:
POLL, POLLKICK, POLLBAN, POLLSET, POLLFLAGRESET
Okay, so for verified ... instead of putting "poll" (which I guess gives all the poll permissions?), I suppose I could use
POLLKICK, POLLBAN, & POLLFLAGRESET
and leave out POLL & POLLSET

Is that correct?

Voting shortcuts

Post by asciimonster »

Is it possible to make a shortcut for voting? Just like you have the o button for /lagstats.

Now I sometimes start typing: n /vote ye... somebody shot me. Annoying. If it was one button, I would be more inclined to vote...

You can use the "F" keys, to make shortcuts (not the key itself, f.) like /vote y, /vote n, and other things like [G][O][O][D] [G][A][M][E]. Excluding f5 and f12.
