there is no graphical map editor made for the mac.
there is a python "pybzedit" ( search sourceforge ), that should run on the mac.
Ok

Just found out that pyBZEdit is graphical.......
(But, I can't get the graphical binding to work so there's no picture...)

yes pybzedit is graphical, it' is not mac specific, it is OS independent.
you need to build the python openGL bindings for mac and install them.

why can't they just release bzedit for the mac?

because there is no bzedit that is writen to work on the mac.
You can't release a program that does not exist.
PyBZEdit

You might as well just use a text editor rather than pyBZEdit on Mac OS X. It Cirtianately provides more freedom in a text editor, lol.
I don't know anyone that has compiled pyOpenGL and made it work with pyBzEdit. *sigh*
Ah anywho. It only makes boxes of pyramids and boxes. If you want the freedom of arcs and meshes use a text editor and wings 3D.
http://www.wings3d.com
and the bzw exporter
http://my.bzflag.org/bb/viewtopic.php?t=3652&
(It only works on panther though)

I got pybzedit working on mac, although buggy. Graphics work too.
It's not that useful though, as you cant rotate the view or rotate bojects w/the mouse. I might be able to post a screenie soon.

there is a java program called BZWorld that helps a little... it gives you a 2-dimensional top view and you can set up and align your map with boxes, pyramids and teleporters (with linking them)
the "big" rest needs to be done in a text-editor...
it's supposed to have a 3D view but doesn't work on my mac.
the author is daniel leonard and maybe we can make him do a little improvement and update on a good start
here the link to his site (with download):

Just downloaded it. It's kinda cool. I might make a few quick ducati style maps, which it would be good for, because you can't jump with ducati, you don't need to be able to put in objects high up - which is difficult (but possible) in the 2D view. It also doesn't do 2.0.x stuff, obviously, which still fits the old-school ducati style...
Expect some maps like that soon - I need a break from the hand-coding.

maybe we could convince the author daniel leonard (aka fork) to keep working on it?!?
but we have to "terror" him in any positive way......
i just sent him an email....

Um, Zaphod? You put his e-mail on a message board!
That's like SPAM mania... (spam bots browse message boards for e-mail)
I would suggest taking it off.
hit the edit button and delete it or make it spam proof:
SP{Aat]A[Diot}coM
Rumor has it that somebody is going to make a
iBZEdit...???
Does anybody know who it is?
(note the
i before it... like
iMac,
iChat,
iMovie,
iTunes)

Ok, good...
I am a member of a board where if you do that there would be like seven posts just about SPAM and why I shouldn't put e-mails...
(So I'm sorry if I came on a little strong)
:-P

Uh.. I just tested a map I made with the Java thing... Rotation doesn't work and some of the positioning seemed a little off too...
Back to TextEdit I guess...

well ::: daniel leonard replyed to my email ::: that is what he wrote :::
For now I do not plan to work on BzWorld, I have been away from the
BzFlag community for years, though I am thinking of coming back.
that is what we all hope ::: because we need a map editor for the mac ::: enough text editing :::!

It would be nice if he could just make the 2D version work, and absolutely awesome if he could make it 3D... but if not, we don't
lose anything...

i dont think i could use a map editor on a mac, and handcoding is harder for me iono why, i just like to make my maps on my windows pc and then test them on mac (less errors for me), but some people don't have multiple computers....
