Start Server Button

Post by that exploding tank » Mon Mar 26, 2007 5:25 pm

Here's a minor change that should happen. Whenever you push the start server button and select your options, the server is up and running on localhost, usually port 5154. To make starting a server more GUI friendly, you should give the option of starting a private or public server, and then use the user's external IP as the address (if public). Also, you should make it easier to choose the map you want rather than just a random map. Finally, you should let the user choose the password to assign the server, so he/she can at least be admin on it.

the in game menu is not meant for public servers, or advanced options. It was only added for quick LAN games. For plubic servers a config fille will provide more options. The server has MANY MANY more options then the simple in-game menu has.

Maybe you could give BZFlag the ability to run config files as an alternative interface to the command prompt or terminal.

If you open a sever and do /saveworld mapname.bzw you will be able to load that mapname.bzw as a map.

If you have time to run a public server, you have time to learn how to use bzfs. Simple as that.
