Simple log

Post by The Purple Panzer » Sat Oct 25, 2003 5:36 pm

It would be very useful if servers could optionally keep a log of kills; say one short ascii line per kill, with the position and flag of the killer and the killee.

Why? Well, for map development, as well as just for tactical planning, it could be very interesting. One could mine the log to understand where the killing zones are, where the most kills for a given flag are made from (e.g. GM positions), what areas of a map are relatively safe, etc. This could be extremely useful in modifying a map to make it more interesting to players.

If a map is played long enough, there ought to be enough data to understand its properties pretty well.

I think this would add a lot, and a minimal implementation and run-time cost. It also would not need to be turned on except as needed.
