Ban list management via usergroup negation

Post by badgerking »

My most cherished thought is ban list management via BZflag usergroup negation.. how about that for ease!?

There is a plugin available that allows you to deny groups - Planet MoFo uses it to deny the COPPA group. However, it is not good for any serious bans as users can opt to leave a group here.

If you want to manage bans for a group of servers, the servercontrol plugin does a great job of it.

Nah, I'm not talking about groups that people have asked to join, I'm suggesting server admins have a group created, much like we do with our admin and cop groups, and that we control membership in them. Of course, it won't affect non-registered players but that could always be addressed with local bans.

Well, if you have to ban registered people here, and non-registered people locally, wouldn't it be simpler to just ban them locally?

Badgerking, the key thing about the groups on these forums is that if you are in a group, you can always take yourself out of it. You may not be able to put yourself into a group (all of our groups are configured this way, the owner of the group puts you in)... but you can always remove yourself when you no longer want to be in it (no admin or group owner required). Go to a group you are in (but not the owner) and look at the options you have.

Ah rats! I didn't even think about a person having the ability to remove themselves at will from a group.
