Yet Another Flag Idea

Post by Amoeba » Tue Sep 09, 2008 8:19 pm

I have a fairly straightforward idea for a possible new flag....

Since on many non-Ricochet maps there is a "Ricochet" flag to balance, why not make a "Radar" flag for non-Radar maps...? Of course this would be a huge advantage, so there could be a shot limit, extra small view, or timer so as to not make it too powerful a flag. Please don't be too harsh, but do tell me what you think.
Thank you,
Amoeba!

sounds like a good idea. i think the timed will be better for it.

I don't agree with this idea, because I think that the goal of most radar-less maps is to be without radar, and having radar would ruin the fun for both the flag holder and the other players.

Flags are not required, but an optional feature to the map maker.

All maps are flagless until you define the flags (either fine grained control on each, or add all good and/or bad ones and then fine pick out the ones you don't want).

This does sound like a good idea, but also like the ricochet flag, it shouldn't be enabled unless _noRadar (<= 0) is set.

There are a couple of different approaches... There would probably have to be a new BZDB variable, so that the radar limit could still be controlled when using the flag. In fact, the flag could just be called "Radar Upgrade" or something similar, and used to give an improved radar range even when radar is already enabled. This way, players could be given short-range radar, and the flag could improve it... much more versatile.

And on that same track of thought, the default value of the radar upgrade range could be a multiple of the normal range. That way, on servers with a radar limit of 0, it would not change gameplay unless the admin also set a radar upgrade limit setting.

Good idea.
It would definitely be THE flag to have on no-radar maps.
Take a look at my Defender game mode concept.

Yep, a nice and straightforward idea.

Exactly, basically I have nothing more to add. (With a setting-option for an adjustable (small) view - as you proposed - I personally don't see why anyone could be scared of this flag-idea)

Wow, everyone's been really nice about my idea! I figured it would flop! Thanks everyone for taking me seriously.

I think the "Radar Upgrade" is an interesting idea by the way.

GOOD ideas are hard to come by. Especially when it comes to new flags. You deserve credit.

Going off on a tangent here... would this be a good idea?
A flag or server setting that would allow the player to see the map on radar, but not the players, or vice versa.
I think we could find a use for that.

That's completely off-topic. I suggest you start a new topic about that.

I don't feel it's completely off topic. We're talking about a flag that affects radar. So how is what Optic Delusion said off topic?

How about the radar flag just working in a short range?

And how about teams sharing their radar flags, meaning: In an otherwise radar-less map in CTF, tanks can pick up a radar flag and see, in a short range, everything around it. Also all other tanks of the team, carrying a radar flag, share their radar view, extending the range of view.

This can open complete new tactics in that some tanks can be equipped with radars to get a field overview for the team, while others protect them.

Heh, I thought of this a while back and posted it on the wiki. I still think it'd be a great flag.

Some of the ideas based on mine are getting complex. I meant mine to be very simple.

??? Lauria, I had no idea you thought of the same thing... hmm, great minds think alike?
