Fun Ideas: Changable Tank Armor?

Wouldnt it be amazing to be able to change the armor on your tank?

It wouldnt really be fair to have it effect anything other than your looks, but it'd still be pretty fun.

What armor permutations would be cool to you?

I don't know... I think it would be possible, but what is the point? It just seems like an unnecessary complication.

Are you talking about like changing the appearance of the tank? Like I know that roboter5a made this post of a custom made tank design and I am currently using roboter5a's tank design. But no, you have a great idea. Like maybe there can be a option (under settings) that it says Customizable tank. and there can be like maybe 5-6 designs? And then a small tank will rotate 360 continuously showing the current selected design. Like it? hehe

That exactly what I was thinking. It also might be fun to be able to custom-code your tank... kinda like building a map but with a tank... oh- and maybe you could choose your camo pattern... the color of whatever team you play as would be the same, but the pattern would be different- like pixel camo, or zebra stripes, or solid color, etc.

Something like this is being implemented into 3.0. check the wiki

It sounds like an easy way to pull off a flagless MQ, though...

I think it would still read the team color from the data folder.

But if people can use their own skins and others will see them as such, then a guy who only plays red on red vs. blue servers could make his color blue...

the system we had in mind did not let users just pick any image, but allowed the server to specify the valid skins for each tank, etc..

there are many problems with blindly trusting content from users.

Oh, I see. Would there be a possible submission-approval system, then?

that was discussed as a later development. The primary concern was just being able to modify the tank graphics on a per player basis.

or maybe just the shape of the armor- not images, or colors- just the shape and pattern of camo

It only affects your client.. the others will not see how you have your tanks set.

hmm... then in that case... I see no point

the point was to just allow a little visual customization on a per player basis, so that everyone wasn't the exact same tank. Very similar to how you can pick a player model in quake, yet still be on the "blue" team.

Would it be possible to have your tank "your design" in perhaps a rouge battle? Seems like it wouldnt work but asking never hurts.

Yeah ro0uge of course people won't see your design, this is sorta of your own personalization. But I was also thinking that a specific map can decide which pattern or design to be used only for the teams. for example. Lets say it was a planet mofo map.

And in the config file you make something like this.

-blueTexture "Stripes"
-redTexture "Swirlys" (Like L4m3r's Avatar)
-purpleTexture "Diamonds"
Sorta like that

He doesnt need to hear the same thing twice. About the server setting, the tank changing would be from your own client not a server setting.

it dosn't matter, it will not be in 3.0 a bunch of back end work still has to be done.

I think you can change it already in the current versions. Just go to the data folder in the program folder and change the PNG files for the tanks. I don't think any new coding would be needed.

That changes the color, not the tank model. Might not have been overly clear, but if you read through the topic, you do see references to the tank model itself.
