"Booster" flag/zones.

Post by Agent West » Mon Mar 02, 2009 3:21 pm

There is High Speed. There is Quick Turn. There is Linear (physics). There is Spin (physics).

is it possible to combine the two (sorta) and make physics that will boost tank speed AND/OR make it turn faster (left or right, unlike spin, where can turn fast only one way).

here's gameplay with

physics
name boost
boost 2 #makes tank move twice as fast/quick while touching the object
end

a player wants to get to the other side of the map, gets on the conveyer. takes off toward the other side and goes there fast. then he stops to pick up a flag. unlike "linear" he does not keep mooving toward the other side of the map, he stops complitly. he can also turn around to get back to his side of the map, or turn quicker to shoot an opponent.

as flag idea that might be a bit overpowered, although the idea is probably used as "handicapped advantage" already.

Sounds like High Speed + Wings. What might be better is something more capable of going against physics, like on some belts you can vary your speed by -+20% (roughly), make a flag which is far more effective (150 or so) which means you can go back, slowly.

didn't think of it that way, but yeah it will be kinda like V+QT(+WG) ONLY when touching the object. will be good for making a roadway (look on wild west, i was there when i got that idea). Talking about physics driver, not a flag now.

I think that could be pretty fun, but maybe a bit hard to implement. Maybe possible with a plugin in 3.0.

Slight mod:

physics ######definition
name booster #name
boost 2 0 2 ###effect (by direction) X,Y,turning
end #########ending

So it boosts tank's speed in X,-X directions. Also makes it turn twice faster. Mod is to actually make it an option variable, just like for "linear" physics.
Note: if "boost 2 2 0", that means that tank will go twice as fast in any direction, yet turn speed will stay the same.

this would require large changes to the game structure. Each tank would have to have it's own set of speed limits. Currently there is one for the entire world, that is controlled by the BZDB vars. This is something we'd like to do but it is rather invasive.

ok, understandable.
for similar effect a plug-in may be used to force give V flag in a zone, then force dropping it when leaving the zone. Is there such (similar) plug-in? if not, do you think it will be hard to make?

plugins don't know about map zones.
