I was on BZ one day and though it would be a good idea to have a spell check inside of bzflag that could be turned off though the options menu. Is this possible in 3.0? It would be an awesome feature!

Yeah, only a small amount of players use correct spelling and punctuation.

I mainly see "lol, ur, u, c u ,aha, pwnt, nub, noob" when I'm playing.

if you want to find someone to write it sure, but this is a much harder task then I think you realize.

1) not everyone speaks English so you'd have to have databases for all languages.
2) spell check systems are somewhat processor intensive(lots of lookups). This is not always good in a high speed game.
3) the chat box doesn't really have a clean way to edit stuff you have typed. We have no cursor click, just backspace.
4) it's a game, do you think most players even care?

Basically it's another complexity and dependency (on whatever spellcheck lib you end up using) for rather little pay off. Spellcheck makes sense in apps that are designed for communication (IM, browsers, word processors, etc..) but not really in a video game.

Sometimes there are different suggestions for words also. So you could try to be saying one word, and it changes to a whole completly different one. That would be a mess. :turtle:

It seems to me that 90% of the time someone chats, it is not in complete, well-formed sentences with all words spelled correctly. Of that 90%, 99% is done that way on purpose. There is no reason for spell checking IMO.

Exactly... the people who do care about spelling most things correctly can probably do so without help, and the people who can't mostly don't care. So, this isn't really needed.
