MIDI Input

Post by Strakowski »

Now there may not be a significant amount of people who would use this, but I was wondering about possibly adding a MIDI controller input in addition to Keyboard, Mouse and Joystick. I've always been intrigued by the idea of custom HIDs for video games, and it's very easy to configure a piece of hardware that sends MIDI messages. I've heard of people taking apart computer keyboards and soldering new buttons on to them for video games or music, but it seems like a lot of work for a lazy old fool like myself. :)

I'd be surprised if there weren't some kind of MIDI-to-keypress converter out there.

Ah, and indeed, here's one for Windows: http://www.bome.com/products/miditransl ... ew/classic

Here's a Mac one from 2006. My guess is that it's not a universal (Intel) build: http://www.charlie-roberts.com/midiStroke

Ah. I guess this would be simpler than adding MIDI functionality to BZ. I usually don't like to run other applications while running BZFlag, but I can't imagine either of the above consume any noticeable memory or processing power. Well, thank you for the suggestions, I'll check both of these out.
