lag compensation

ok, im not a computer wiz like a lot of you players here, but i had an idea for a form of lag compensation. we all know that due to some doogameehick or something, lag compensation of the conventional sort would mean that tanks would jitter back and forth/ side to side. what if instead of that, there was a dot/ marker or something small that would float the correct distance from the tank, that way, the dot could jump frames and the tank would still be moving properly. sorry if i didnt really explain it right but. well. hope its a good idea
