Multi-monitor support

Post by AAA »

I would love it if there was support for 2 or 3 monitors:

if there was 2, one would show stats, radar, HUD info.
If 3, there would be a wider display

The 2 monitor option would be great for organised / stratagy play.

Dual Moniters

AAA, that is possible. You can have 2 monitors, (at least in linux you can), its just they will both show you the same thing, lol!

It will spread the display over both screens in linux if you select the right video settings, but it isn't too useful as you end up with the radar too far away from the action, and a split viewport. If you hacked the code around and had radar and console on one screen with the play in the other it may be better, think of the dodging potention of a half screen sized radar!

get a list of the BZFlag command line options, and you'll notice -view is one of them. I'm guessing you could somehow use the -view command and two monitors to achieve multiple different views on each monitor.

If the nvidia driver allowed glx on more than one x display this would be useful, as it is it only allows glx on a single display, albeit spread over two monitors, it will only be useful, with the 'three' setting, if the monitors are vertically stacked (or configured as vertically stacked), and even then the radar would be half sized, and who wants to alter the xorg config just for a 1hr gaming session?

Maybe it will work with X specified dual monitors (ie not twinview), I'll try it when I get a chance.....
