It would be nice to have a surround sound feature in the client..

We should actually get some sounds that are encoded at a higher bitrate and/or sound a bit better first . Something that doesn't make players (a.k.a. me) play with the sound off 99.9 percent of the time .

But yes, it would definitely be cool to hear explosions and shots coming from all around you.

There was a feature request for this on sourceforge a few months ago. It all comes down to finding a free 5.1 (or 7.1) channel encoder library. Right now nobody has found a free encoding library. If you can find one, great, 5.1 (or 7.10) channel BZAudio!
