Caching textures

Post by The Purple Panzer » Sun Jul 24, 2005 3:26 am

A number of my favorite maps take a while to load, as they
reference textures (e.g. at It'd be nice
if these were cached so that I didn't have to wait for them each
time - which is especially annoying when I have to try to join
a second time, for example when my intended team is full.

This might be a long-term cache (that I could presumably clear when
I felt like it), or even for one session, if I'm bouncing between teams/servers, and if more than one map uses the same texture. Basically anything would help.

yes, i think that is a great idea...same thing as on mofo, there were these billboards that only a few could see, temp. taken down, due to complaints.
Games don't make people violent, lag does.

Caching was implemented in the very first version
of the feature. It's been working great for me since
day #1. There are a few hints: the Options -> Cache
Settings menu, the ~/.bzf/cache/CacheIndex.txt file,
and the fact that all of the textures are downloaded
in ~/.bzf/cache/http/...

Unfortunately, it was not properly tested on all OSes
and with all versions of libCurl (I can only test linux
myself). Hopefully a little more testing of these other
platforms will be done on 2.0.4 before it's released.
