Sniper Flag (SP - SniPer)

I think a new flag would be interesting, noticing some of the new "sniper servers." (LaserMania - lot's of sniping, tavern.rklubi - is that how it's spelled?) This flag would do this:

a) Have more zoom. When you press b it zooms normal level and when you press again it doubles the zoom. If this is not possible, it should just go to a better zoom first off.

b) Use regular shots, but go very fast. Not instant. (kinda like tavern.rklubi)

c) Long reload time. Should be a bit longer than laser... maybe 2x as long?

d) Cloaked and stealthed tanks are invincible to sniper tanks. We all know how camping can be so annoying and ruins the game... so others have a chance with the CL and ST flag.

Any more suggestions would be great! I don't know if some of this is possible, but it would be a very nice flag to play around with. :)

I forgot to mention the main strength of this flag is on huge maps when lots of zoom is needed. Maybe it's cons are too much? More suggestions would be great!

this has been suggested by many other players before (even by me),
the reason why it isn't implemented is:

-Laser can be used for sniping
-Rapid Fire too (server sets shotspeed very high, longer reload and u can use ur binocs for zoom)

These are good points, but a SP flag would allow you to zoom twice as much.

two probleems:

1. the laser flag is a super flag and not seen very often
2.the rapid fire only goes a short distance

i think that the range of the sniper flag should be farther too 8)

well, then its pretter much just like laser. kinda pointless if you ask me.

i think its a good idea, but only if the sniper stays in one spot and can move their screen in any direction they want (not just side to side but up and down too.) like you could pick up the flag, click once uve found your spot, and now your mouse moves your screen and not your tank, and fire button to shoot.

Yeah, up-down movement would be a must- but only when zoomed.

Maybe make the tank unable to move while posed for sniping? and I think the FOV should be very narrow when zoomed in.

the not moving should only be when you are zoomed in,and that would be cool is it was small,and there would be a "+" in the middle so you can aim better 8)

Hm, maybe it should disable your radar also.

nuh uh eagle, look at MG, its capabilities are very limited. i agree with lamer, no radar, no movement and maybe, just maybe, you have the BU ability to go lower, kinda like a foxhole.

If you think of it in terms of a real live Sniper it would have these abilities:

Low down, like you are burrowed.
2 modes, shooting and running.
You cant shoot when you run.
Press the Binocular button to go into shooting mode. It should zoom more than normal. You can now look around and aim, but not move the tank.
Shots are super fast, very long, but not rico, even on a rico map.
Slow reload...

Thats about it I think.
Up/Down movement would be cool, but probably pretty hard to do.

I think you've got it summed up nicely, CBG.

Some thoughts:

Machine gun, Guided Missle, Shock wave, Wings, to name a few, have their own server variables.

For example, SW has:

_shockOutRadius which controls how far it extends
_shockAdLife which controls how long is stays, and consequently, how
fast it moves
_shockInRadius which controls how big the shockwave is when it starts

Perhaps some vars and possible defaults for sniper:
_sniperShotSpeed 500 to control the shot speed
_sniperZoom .25? (multiplied by the normal view) to control the zoom
_sniperSpeedAd 0 (multiplied by set movemet rate) to control whether or
not the sniper can move while zoomed in
_sniperAngularAd .55 (multiplied by normal turning rate) to set how fast
the sniper can turn. Could help with the difficulty
often encountered with aiming while binoculars is on
_sniperRico 0 to control whether or not sniper bullets ricochet

Some of these could be kinda difficult to setup, and it would take an actual developer to say whether this could work or not.

As the game exists now, there is no facility to look up or down, so that would take some major changing of the system. Sort of like allowing tanks to go up and down ramps as proposed by the Open Combat system.

Here's my thought.

No good flag "hinders" the tank... and when it does it gives stuff back to the people. Like MG, on some servers it's the best. Like SR, it makes more tk's but it's an awesome weapon on some servers because of its size.

The flag should alter shot speed, the amount of shots you can fire. The actual zoom rate of the binoculars.

It should not "drop" you in the ground... that's just stupid (no offense).

And making the tank not be able to move would be horrible...


Now, what flag has two modes?

None, all the flags are the exact same as when you get them.



As you can see though people want custom flags... so why not make a custom flag?

With everything settable? even shot type...
You could make a GM that enabled the tank to move fast....
