Abolish player scores on ctf.

Post by Spazzy McGee » Thu Dec 15, 2005 5:37 pm

should there be an individual player score on CTF at all?

it's all about the team, so only show the team score, to discourage people just playing FFA on a CTF game.

I admit, very occassionally it is acceptable to play FFA on a CTF server, but if that is the case, you do not need to see any individual scores, thus, I voted to abolish individual scores on CTF.

on any CTF game alot of peopel care mostly about the FFA then the CTF, even if it's the most CTF encoraging map ever. if you remove the scoreboard that would be nice, because not so many people will care totally about their score.

youre all guilty of it. dont say youre not.

youve made your way to the other teams base. someone approaches at you, fires some mid-range shots. they seem on target to pwn you if you dont stop. then, while your turning to face him, he fires again. thats FFA on a CTF server.

its just that some people do it more than others.
Games don't make people violent, lag does.

I think its a horrible idea to get rid of player scores. In order to know if you are in a position to make a run for the flag you need a way of ensuring that there's a player with a high score that can cover you.

Or do most of you just tell your team to all make a run for the flag at the same time with no organization? True this happens a lot, but its not ideal, and that's not real CTF. CTF is about teamwork, knowing people's strengths and weaknesses. Some are better at dodging shots and running for the flag, others at taking out as many people as they can (but possibly dying in the process)

yeah, we all are, i'm just thinking about encouraging CTF - you get servers where team flags are just treated like an optional extra, and people don't care.

I just think that taking away player scores all together is a better idea than trying to implement a system where individual points are awarded for flag capture.

Prehaps it could be made a bzfs option if you have -c, you can have -noscore too

That would actually be really good. Let the owners decide.

Yes!

A command line option, make it '-noscore' or something.

If you don't whant people to have a personnal score for how much
tank they have killed, just allow them to have a flag capture score(like
for the kill but for the team flag) and you will see that everybody will try
to get the enemie team flag. Games like Bzflag work basically on score
because it's what interest the majority of player. They whant to show that
they are the best, don't you whant that to? I'm not the kind of player that
do everything to get the best score on the list, but i'm happy when i'm
the second or the third better player on the map... So give them a flag
capture score instead of just no score.

just allow them to have a flag capture score
this has been said before, and flaws have been found, and lots of different systems suggested... all to no avail.

so just have the team scores, and no player scores. this is about teamwork, people!

I always have and always will feel that team scores are the only important fact on a CTF server.

Who cares who's the best killer on a CTF server, IT'S ABOUT TEAMWORK

I think it really is about time that "No player score" was at LEAST an option for CTF servers

PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE will someone introduce this

None of the devs will do this... I promise you...

If you want stuff done like this you have to show that everybody likes it... not just a stupid poll... and btw, that would require a client mod...
