New BZFlag playing mode ideas

Post by Goodbye2U »

Why not put in the option to play as aircraft?

They can shoot normal shots, OR drop bombs or fire missiles(only one of them)

can move up, down, left, right(by rotation), are always moving at tank speed,

Get killed when they collide with buildings and can't get flags,

Can only be in red, blue, green, and purple colors, as rouge planes are too horrific,

And last, but not least, can be included/excluded as normal teams.

However, if this is actually put into BZFlag, it would be most fair to allow the tanks be able to raise/lower muzzles.

What do you think?

Tim Riker ( the maintainer and copyright holder of bzflag ) has stated that bzflag is to be a simple game, and there will be no aircraft or complex vehicles.

What you are describing would have to go into a new game, that is based off the bzflag source code.

Basically, it's a tank game. It's taken a lot of work to get it to where it is now.
Adding planes just doesn't even seem like an idea for BZFlag to me.
You may as well just make a whole new flight sim. Heh...

Yeah, I guess you're right. At least it was an idea worth asking.

it is never a bad thing to ask, just don't expect it to be put into the mainline game. Tim's always had the requirement of keeping bzflag simple.

You know, I think I'll try that. Just as soon as I figure out the source code.
I've got it for 2.0.4, that might give me a start.

This would be entirely possible using BZFlag's source as a basis, but I firmly do not want BZFlag to turn into a flight sim. It's a tank game after all...

Although, a branch of BZFlag (AirTanks, anyone?) that did this would be fun. :)

Why not call it something else(although Battle Zone capture the Flag is a nice name for this game)
or just make it optional, you know?

I don't think very many people like my idea :(

Good point, It's already good. I guess I just wanna contribute.

But I'll make it anyway, for my personal use and just for kicks.:P

EDIT: I need a source code that actually works for Dev-C++ 4.9.9.2.
anybody have something I could use?

I'm sure many of you wings-weenies can testify that you already can fly in BZFlag, and it adds a lot to the game. And a lot of wings-weenies-haters can say the opposite, of how horrible the wings flag is and why the developers ever added it to 2.x.

yeah, give the tanks wings or something like that :P

EDIT: That's already been done! :P

Anyway, The main idea for planes is my wish to bomard the opposing
team withcountless shots without obstruction of walls.
And I had to make it fair(somewhat).
I wish I knew C++ better :(
