Super-duper and Not-so-super flag ideas

Post by Goodbye2U »

Might as well see if anyone likes this idea.

the Super-duper flag does the following:

tank goes slightly faster
tank turns slightly faster
shots go slightly faster
shots reload slightly faster
tank can turn while airborne a little
(if too complex, leave it out)
shots curve toward enemies slightly
shots curve away from teammates slightly

sort of an all-around flag.

the Not-so-super flag does the following:

tank goes slightly slower
tankturns slightly slower
shots go slightly slower
reloads slightly slower
shots don't go as far
tank is a little bigger
tank can't jump as high
tank jumps faster(less airborne time)
radar is staticy
(if too complex, leave out)
shots repelled from enemies

sort of a all-in-one bad flag

feel free to criticize, but I need input!
I'm thinking I need a better sig than this...

well the super flag sounds cool. howabout its called the "Booster" flag. the bad flag it too bad, it kinda ruins the game cuz u cant kill people, unless you only had it for a few seconds.

yuck. no, that looks to me like it's too powerful and it does too much. And i can't see what it would add to the game.

the same goes for the bad version.

The bad flag would only hit at very close ranges, don't really like the super flag either.

I suppose you guys dont like the tiny, high speed, or any of those little flags that boost some of your skills either?

I agree with Spazzy. Maybe this flag could be a 3- or 4-shot flag and will automatically drop. Or perhaps if you drive over any other good flags your current flag will auto-drop. And no, I don't care for those other little flags, since they don't appear in Boxy and I mainly play in Boxy.
I haven't touched BZFlag for years, but maybe sometime I'll make a comeback.

No way. If you're going to make a new bad flag, dont mix them all together. Suppose you were on a crowded server, about the only thing you could do to survive is to not move or pray that no one kills you. As for the good flag, I think that it's too good. It would be too hard to kill him.

Note: there is no shield,ST, or CL properties. get him with a SW or GM or L, or just corner him.

Also note: they are all slight adjustments, not everything piled on.

Have a look at the following feature request:
[ 1311164 ] Configurable Flags
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.ph ... tid=353248

Somebody requested for a way to define custom flags in the server config file. This would allow you to define your own version of the superduperflag and add it to your server. Now that would be cool :)

hmm...I think it should be more like this:
All-Around
slightly faster tank speed
slightly faster reload
slightly faster turn rate
shots go slightly faster and farther
tank a very little bit smaller

Bad-Around (all the 'slightly's' should be more in value than on the good flag)
slightly slower tank speed
slightly slower reload
slightly slower turn rate
shots go slightly slower and shorter
tank even less bigger than the good flag makes the tank small
G2U, you've put too much into the idea. Sometimes less is more, and I think that that applies here. Change only the core values that tankers take for granted, not the more complex(Turning in air, shots attracted/repelled). The shot magnetism and the static radar would require large coding jobs, and probably will never be put into the game.

The simpler, less powerful All-Around flags would be very possible in the game.

I figured the shot thing was a little complicated... but thanks for pointing out the radar difficulty. 8)

Nice find, but will it work for all clients? Like, say, you put a custom flag on a public server, will it work?
I don't blame you if you don't know.
And apparently it wasn't implemented...

Thats the thing, just like with maps and textures and such, it would be loaded onto the client and cached, depending on your settings.

If at all, it would be in 2.1.x, thats the next protocol change. Such a thing would require a major change, known basically as a protocol change. No, the way BZ works doesnt change.
