Overlord back up...again

Post by Bambino »

Earlier today javawizard2539 setup his server with the classic Overlord.

I have been given his permission to make this post.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
General guidelines/rules

1. No cheating - you will be caught an banned permanently. A cheat is a cheat, no matter how subtle.
F5 counts as a cheat.

2. Language - Rude language is not tolerated AT ALL. This includes profanity in your callsign and email string. Also, the logs are read over and anyone caught swearing into private chat or publicly will be banned for a undetermined amount of time.

3. Spam - do not come onto the server and start randomly spamming stuff. This includes advertising other servers and maps.

4. Team Killing - Do NOT shoot your team mate intentionally. The occasional accidental team kill is fine, just not to often.

5. Lag - We all lag as one point or another, if you are warned about lag fix it. If you're not sure about how to fix it, just as an admin about what to do.

6. Ignoring admins - please don't ignore us, we're here to help and prevent / stop trouble.

7. If you think you shouldn't do something, don't! or ask an admin.

8. Do not admin ask - this includes asking how to be an admin and if you can be one. it will never happen if you ask, I will make sure of it.

9. Use common sense

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bans.

If you have been banned and wish to protest it contact me(Bambino) or javawizard2539 on the forums.

If you're caught in a host ban or range ban contact us to be added to a whitelist group.

A small thing to know if you're in host ban - your client just sits on the "Global Login Approved!" message, you can't press "I" to spawn, or you receive the host ban message.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Map.

We are working hard to make the Overlord as identical to the old day! If you have any setting like shot limits, oncap world weapons, tell us!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you have any questions feel free to ask me (Bambino) or javawizard2539.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Adding to #2, most people know how conservative I am. I'm holding the server to that same standard. I won't kick you if you didn't know that lang wasn't allowed, but if you continue to use lang, then I will ban.

Good to see Overlord populated again, even if it may only be for a short while.
It was also good to be greated without a lag warning. :)

200ms for the win! :D

Its great to see Overlord back up. This classic map was insanely popular and still is. Thank you to javawizard and Bambino for bringing it back! I speak on behalf of everyone when I say the map rocks!

Good job java and Bam and I wish you success with running the server...

Don't do what?

I personally think 200ms lag for a Aussie on a GU match would be amazing, less people whining about lag :)

I said dont do it thinking Zac isnt an Aussie...I know Australia has a hard location for BZFlag. 200ms isnt normal for US or Euro, is it?

Do you mean that an Aussie having 200ms in an US server is normal? Not really, thats why all the
aussies want califorina servers, because it's closer to there location = less lag.
'course he's an Aussie.

And the server is running on a VPS. I've heard plenty of people (well, actually, one in particular, and I think you know who you are, but I'm not saying nuthin) say that a VPS would lag at least 500ms. I think I just cleanly proved these people wrong.

there was a nice game going on zaphod's server yesterday, with familiar faces from years ago. whichever server, i hope overlord will regain it's place at the top of the list. it's still the single best ctf map imnsho.
