Cheater on games.mahoru.net ??

Hi all,

It's been a couple of years since I've played with BZ and I saw today a cheating behaviour by a player called "tofu2" on games.mahoru.net server. He had the burrow flag but was going at very high speed which is obviously abnormal. After I let everyone on the game aware of the cheater, my tank was running very slow. So he could also affect my tank behaviour !! He did not stay very long and disappeared after I quit the game

Since I Left the game in 2005, I thought that all problems related to cheating was over with new solutions on the server side. Who knows the admin of this server ? was he testing something ?

I'm still on BZ 2.0.16 and notice that not many people are present ( max 10 ), are client and server not compatible between versions ?

Cheers.

Hi Korkall

Several things to touch on here... One, you should update your bzflag client to a more recent version. There are more players on the version 2.4 branch of the game. Secondly, the BU flag can be changed to go however fast or slow the server owner cares to set it at. I can't speak with any certainty about the server you mentions, however. Also, there are cheaters on every version the game has to offer. That is, as I see it, a social problem stemming from people not getting enough attention from mommy & daddy, so they resort to such tactics to feel special about themselves, bless their hearts. Not in the multitude as it once was, but we still got cheaters, crooked admins, poor players, noobs, good folks, skilled players, and everything in between. Upgrade and come see what modern bzflag has to offer.

...and lastly, Welcome back to bzflag! Its but a shell of what it once was, but there are a number of ol' faithfuls still lurking about. Stick around and pwn a few noobz.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I thought I had a not too old version as I have Ubuntu 12.04, but notice after my post, that there is a big gap with the latest 2.4. So I've downloaded and compiled the latest version and I'am happy to see much more people now :) .

Concerning cheating behaviour, it's just so sad to hear it's still possible to cheat, but off course it is closely linked with the open source nature of the game. Nevertheless, it is nothing compared to 2005, I just saw this guy "tofu2" so far. However he was clearly cheating, and being able to affect my tank's behaviour, it is something that I've never see in the past.

So I'm very glad to still see a lot of activity around this game...

See you on the field ;-) ...

Cheers.

Actually it's easy to cheat because BZFlag was never designed to prevent cheating. It's a LAN game at heart. Very little has changed from 2.0.x to 2.4 with those regards.
