Server Sign Off = Lag

Ok.
My new server runs smooth as silk.
Until...
Whenever someone signs off, a huge amount of lag dominates the server, and stays on until I restart it.
Is this the result of a bad conf file switch?
Or is it a connection problem.
Its hosted on a 750 K DSL connection.
Should be enough....
Any suggestions?
Some of the players say they've "seen that before".
I can post my conf file if needed.

I have the same problem, and you run windows, right? (the avatar...) DTRemenak told me it was a general problem with windows. oh boy, that gives me hope.
The windows server has had this problem for a very long time. I don't know why, it's an elusive problem. Best advice for now at least is to find an old computer (bzfs runs quite satisfactorily on pentium 1 machines, as long as you aren't running the word filter), install some variant of unix (e.g. linux or bsd), and run the server on that.

sounds scary.
Yes im on Windows XP.
Im hosting and playing on the same computer.
And the lag boost seems to appear when I am in my BZ client. (both on same computer)
Would this have something to do with the problem?

All I can say is that I have the same operating enviroment as you, and you're just reading my story with what goes wrong. I do the exact same thing.

Very interesting.
Wonder if any other Win XP users are having this problem.
Like I said, the server is usualy fine if im not in my client.
Even observing seems to activate the problem.
BZAdmin is ok, although I cannot see whats going on in the game.

There have been issues with hosting on Windows for as long as I can remember. (it actually used to be worse) Personally, it's much better to run it on a linux box.

Ok mayb i'll buy a junker sumwhere and put Linux on it.
....any ideas on where I could download the OS?

I use
ZipSlack (a stripped down version of Slackware) and it can host a server. I have it running on my Pentium 133MHz. The main thing you can't do on a system of this speed is profanity filters, as they eat up way too much CPU power.

I host my server on a mac and i don't (think) i have any problems with signing off but i do have an overall laggyness a lot.
