Culling Tree And Meshes

Post by Landshark » Fri Mar 04, 2005 9:49 pm

I've created four meshes which resemble mountains (from one data set).

Code: Select all

Top view diagram:
+------+------+
| mesh | mesh |
| | |
+------+------+
| mesh | mesh |
| | |
+------+------+
Meshes have the property that they don't overlap with each other. By that I mean two meshes that would appear to share a vertex coordinate in the above diagram actually have 0.001 difference in the X or Y vertex coordinate to prevent overlap.

When I load the map (with only the four meshes) onto a test server and then connect the client with "Culling Tree" display option on, I would expect to see four culling tree nodes, instead I see one node. What gives?

To illustrate my point, please take a look at the difference in the culling tree between boxes and meshboxes for yourself:

Code: Select all

world
  size 300
end
box
  size 10 10 20
  position 100 100 0
end
box
  size 10 10 20
  position -100 100 0
end
box
  size 10 10 20
  position 100 -100 0
end
box
  size 10 10 20
  position -100 -100 0
end

Code: Select all

world
  size 300
end
meshbox
  size 10 10 20
  position 100 100 0
end
meshbox
  size 10 10 20
  position -100 100 0
end
meshbox
  size 10 10 20
  position 100 -100 0
end
meshbox
  size 10 10 20
  position -100 -100 0
end
Maybe I'm just splitting culling tree hairs... :|
