selecting player to talk to

Post by /usr/bin/vi »

I always had problems with selecting a player to talk to.
I've been told that with "." and arrow-keys it should be possible to talk to any
player. I've tried that in 1.10.4, 1.10.8 and now 2.0.0 but it never worked.

The only chance that I have to talk to a player is to see him and lock on him.

When I press "." I get just get the prompt to talk to one specific person. If I press arrow-
keys nothing changes (I can't select any other player).
After browsing the code it seems to me that the string "Send To" should appear.
Is that right? I've never seen that string.

Does anybody know this problem?
Am I stupid and doing something wrong?

A workaround for this is to press 'n' to send to all, and then type:

Code: Select all

/msg "playername" message

/usr/bin/vi are u a keyboard player? just wondering ...
i am a keyboard player an have the same problem . it might be due to a conflict with the arrow keys if you have them binded to the same controls for your tank .
so when i needed to chat to a specific player , what i did was go to the options menu , an change my input setting from keyboard to mouse controls . then "." and arrow keys will work .

it may seem more of a hassle , but when u need to talk to different peeps at a time i find its easier .

yes - I hate mice. :|
what i did was go to the options menu , an change my input setting from keyboard to mouse controls .
I tried that, and it works ...
But thats awful! If I want to write a short msg, then sometimes I start it write after taking off for a jump and I want to finish it before I land. I can't go to the menu during the jump.
Isn't there another way?
Can't I change the definition of the keys to select the player to talk to? Nearly everything can
be redefined - so why not the arrow-keys in the context of selecting a "talk-target" ?

The way RPG mentioned works of course, but sometimes it's a bit hard to completely type somebodys name.
I find it should be possible to use the arrow-keys even when in keyboard-mode.
