contest

Post by sid6.7 »

i was planning for DEC 2004 a couple people have wanted to do another... if you can wait we can lump them all in DEC that way we also might have more the 3 judges which would be better...myself and grumbler are going to do it last i knew
i dont know about yusless he maybe gone to europe then...
trepan might be another......look over the DEC 2004 rules
i made here in the map forum and help me customize it for better results.......it does allow judges to enter maps
with penalty points...same for map remakes...so more people
can enter...

traditionally is was always NOV-DEC with winner announced
1st week of JAN i believe?

and be prepared.. toaster and aribeth and trepan are very good
TOUGH competition!!!!

trepan don't do competitions. most of
my maps are concept pieces, or just
plain fluff, so none of them will be
submitted.

anyways, the rules of the game are
changing a little. as bzflag 1.12.0 will
probably be out by the time of the
contest (that's just a guess), I figured
i'd show yaz some of the new map
features.

http://members.rogers.com/trepan/screenies.html

NOTE: those maps are not meant to be
played. they were all written as graphics
testing maps. I've got a relatively decent
machine (1.53GHz Athlon, GF3), and that
space1999 map gives me about 1 FPS
(with 100000+ tetrahedrons). The others
are playable though :)

Here is a quick list of related map changes:
1. added tetrahedrons (with per-side color
and visibility specification)
2. added entry zones (flag, player, team flag safeties)
3. added 'options' section to maps, so that
the game configuration can be kept along-
side the map (as bzfs command line opts)
4. probably many others i've forgotten...

Here are some other map related improvements:
1. Octree used for visual culling (there are
also occluders, but their selection algorithm
hasn't really been tweaked yet).
2. Octree used for collison detection
3. Hopefully, the radar will soon be sped up

'cause there ain't no competition :)

truth be told, i don't do them either. last go-round, i was experimenting and released one of my maps for kicks and it got included by sid6.7 in the competition. (beehive)

nimitz would never win a competition based on efficient map design - 2700 objects this week and i still have to add the destroyers...

i am not working on maps for competition, but for fun. 'sides, i don't want to be in competition with aribeth and trepan. much rather be learning from both of them.

back to my map - gotta finish that design for an arleigh burke class destroyer. :)

dutchrai is gone

Post by sid6.7 »

dutch is gone for awhile the last map contest crumbled
when he left...so i picked it up to keep it alive until he
comes back...its his contest...i'm just doing it till he gets back

www.cruzan.info goto hobby link goto bzflag

that will show you the last 3 contests and what happened
who won...

here is the rules i made up for DEC 2004 if its not
okay to directly link to this just look up sid6.7 in search
and you'll see a thread a called DEC 2004 rules or something..
i did not see anything in forum rules saying not to...yet..

http://bzbb.bzflag.org/viewtopic.php?t= ... ht=contest

and suggestions or comments are welcome about the rules
grumbler is still looking at it i believe and has not sent
any comments in yet...

im hoping to draw a very large crowd since we'll allow
modified exsisting maps and judges to submit also
hopefully we can draw about 5 judges for a more
balanced view of all the maps....

PS i hope trepan will submit and judge
that means we just need 2 more judges..
trepan has some nice map ideas...
i sure would like toaster to submit too
as i really like nimitz and beehive i thgt
nimitz was probably one of the top 3 all time
most artistic maps ive seen, maybe there could
be 1 more new map hidden in his head somewhere? :)

Toaster is right--there is no competition, because I will win it before anybody else has a chance :)
