I had the dream that I could host my own server with my own map...
But thanks to JeffM2501, that idea is floating at the bottom of the indian ocean.
Although, I would still love tomake maps...
but How can I try these maps out, without a server?

run the server local.

just run bzfs -world yourmapname.bzw

then connect to 127.0.0.1 on port 5154 in game.

yeah routers can be a pain, search google for your router model, I'm sure someone's had to set up some kind of server on one before.

Being the windows expert that I am (not!) I can't help you. But if you're running linux or Mac OS X (10.2 or later) I think I can help. The linux command

blah@blah.comp$:bzfs -conf /your/path/to/bzfs.conf (normally in your bzflag source folder under /home/yourname/bzflag/misc/bzfs.conf)

In Mac OS X:
blah@blah.comp$:cd /Applications/BZFlag-2.0.0/Contents/MacOS/
blah@blah.comp$:./bzfs -conf /i/don't/remember/the/path/bzfs.conf
(Oh right, d it in X11)

Hope this helps

Server Through a Router

I am currently running my server through a Linksys router. To do so, I had to open ports on the router through it's port forwarding settings. I set up the router to forward ports 5154 and 5150 to the static ip of my computer that is running the server. It is difficult to set this up - I spent about a week getting it right :(

This topic is a few weeks old...
I can run the server fine and I even managed to open port5154 on my router... and it works. ;)

Now, maybe when I have finished my map I will set the server up to allow a few people on at a time, mainly just to show off my map. ;)

Maybe you can help me with that?
My map is my first map ever, all 100% hand coded in TextEdit. ;)

Its influenced quite strongly by the Hex map on gamesunited... and is attached below.

Please let me know what you think and what I can do to improve it...
I think I could make good use of colours and textures, but I don't really know how So I figred plain boxes will do for now.
What can I add? Or Is the map already too full?

Thanks, CBG
