i noticed that on the drawinfo test server these two materials had two interesting additions, any wish to explain the highlighted please?

I believe the second one makes it not appear on radar.

The first one makes the texture appear as if it is on a sphere, even if it is not. It makes a low-polygon textured sphere look like a higher-polygon one.
Try using spheremap on a box ;)

Another interesting one is noshadow, this one I find useful for preventing a clear window, etc from casting a shadow.
